I’m in Love with a Train Conductor
Tyler and Peter are acting in the Polar Express at the Colorado Railroad Museum this holiday season. The show happens on the train, and there is caroling and hot chocolate and cookies. There is Santa and elves and sleigh bells and magic. It’s the best thing happening all over town, and it’s happening five nights a week through Christmas.
Tyler has been cast as Billy, whom you may remember as the little boy who sings a duet on the train, and Peter plays the role of the Train Conductor.
Honestly, I feel like Peter plays a better train conductor than Tom Hanks himself.
And Tyler, with all the singing and dancing and straight up acting… my heart hurts with how much I love this kid. He was born for this.
“Here we only got one rule:
Never, ever let it cool!
Keep it cooking in the pot –
Soon we got hot chocolate!”
I got to see the show exactly one time, which was about 19 times too few.
They come home after show nights with stories of spilled hot chocolate, toddlers who peed straight through their sleeper jammies on the train ride, a little boy who interrupted Peter’s monologue to say, “There is too a Santa, you train conductor!!” and little girls who presented crayon pictures of train cars to give to this real live train conductor. Their sketches are hanging in our kitchen.
And there are a few magical Christmas bells rolling around the back of our Toyota 4-Runner, which is proof that I still believe. Because I hear them jingle-jangle all the livelong day.
“It’s so much fun when Christmas comes to town.”
