Long Overdue
“It was an aesthetically pleasing volume – at once slim and heavy, and bound in jade green cloth – and this was the main reason I’d kept it out so long, since I had found it effectively unreadable.”
I smiled to myelf when I read about this character in the novel I’m currently carrying everywhere with me. I identified equally with her love for beauty and her weakness for overdue fines.
And this made me wonder how many things – books, coffee mugs, bracelets, cardigans; or ideas, principles and beliefs – I held to long after it posed any good to me,
because I still liked how it felt in my hand.
