What Greater Thing
What greater thing is there for two human souls,
than to feel that they are joined for life –
to strengthen each other in all labor,
to rest on each other in all sorrow,
to minister to each other in all pain,
to be one with each other
in silent unspeakable memories
at the moment of the last parting?
~ George Eliot
I got to be present for that last part, those last words, the moment of last parting.
I carry them in my heart,
along with the moment I first learned I loved him,
the moment I said yes,
the moment I said I do.
To be with him as he died, this is God’s grace in my life.

Patty Kline says:
Tricia, you so often speak to feelings and thoughts that I’m not always aware I have, or have not formulated well enough to share with others, but once I read your words, I say, “Yes! That’s it! That’s exactly how I feel!” God bless you, sweet girl. You help me so much.
