Loving God’s Words in Your Actual Life.

As I have gingerly approached the starting line for writing this book, I have received three generous and gracious doses of recurring feedback:

  • “Tricia, please write a book about how you fell in love with the Bible, but not a book that sounds like it’s about the Bible. I want to read what you have to say about the Scriptures you love, but I don’t want to read – and wouldn’t share with my friends – a book that is too stuffy with Christianese.”
  • “Tricia, the best thing about your writing is your storytelling. We feel like we are sitting with you over a cup of coffee. Your books are a fast and easy read because it feels like catching up with an old friend.”
  • “Tricia, you are this generation’s Erma Bombeck. Your ‘slice of life’ writing lives at the intersection of funny and deep, and before I know it – I’ve learned something.”

Listen, I am not a seminarian, an academician, or a theologian; I am not a Bible teacher or even a Bible scholar. I am a lover of messy people; a tarbled mom of two teenage boys who are likely late for school and wearing mismatched socks; I have been known to absent-mindedly doodle in the margins of overdue library books; I have battled depression and anxiety to degrees that have nearly drowned me; I have begged the Lord for miracles that only He could provide; and somewhere in the midst of all of that, I fell hopelessly in love with the Word of God as a light to my next step and the air for my next breath. My love for the Word of God is passionate and contagious, tangible and real, and these essays will be filled with morsels that become a whole meal.

I am writing a compilation of story-based essays with eloquent humor and angles of life, each one revealing how the Bible has become my lifeline in the actual life that I have.
I propose to you a book about falling in love with the Bible… that feels nothing like reading a book about the Bible. When readers finish this book, they will say, “I see what she did there. I didn’t realize it, but I was learning while I was laughing. She invited me into a dialogue about things I didn’t know I wanted to learn. She stirred within me a love for the Bible, but it didn’t hurt at all.”

That’s what I’m going for.

  4. Tricia — I can feel your excitement through my computer screen and I too am very excited and can’t wait to read this new “baby” you have birthed! I love your “The book cover feels like the ultrasound photo of a new baby!” Now pardon me while I look up the word “tarbled”; I am sure I will agree that this is the adjective I felt when I had teenage boys under my roof!

  5. Can’t wait to read it, Tricia. As a fellow (sister!) NavPress author, I’d be happy to help promote it when the time comes.

  6. I am SO looking forward to this! Please tell me we will get a chance to pre-order?!
