In The End: The Freedom of Parenting

design

When our kids were little, we were so uptight.

It was so important to us that our kids do the right things, say the right things, belong to the right things. That’s all well and good, and I encourage you to do those things.

Learn all you can. Pray for your kids. Get them involved in church. Do your best in every way.

But here is the reality.

In the end, your kids are going to become who your kids are going to become.

In the end, as a parent, you’re going to take way too much blame for the bad things they do and accept way too much credit for the good things they do.

So, love them. Care for them. But know you can’t control them.

Control is an illusion. They’re going to become who they’re going to become.

  1. Oh my gosh! This is so true! We learned this the hard way! Very humbling! Thank you for this.

  2. This has pretty much been my parenting mantra from day 1. And it has brought me so much freedom to just enjoy who Gid made them to be. We discipline them, pray for them, set boundaries for them, but ultimately they are their own people and will make their own choice- good and bad. I am supposed to love them and point them to Jesus. And it’s been such a relief to just do that and enjoy them.
