In a Hallway in a Dream

Spacious hallway in a public overpass

I met Robb in a dream.

We were in a giant mansion of a hotel,
rooms upon rooms,
hallways that led to more and more hallways.
There were banquets happening in all of these ballrooms.
Dinners, dancing, wedding receptions.
Women were dressed in gowns that sparkled.
Men wore crisp ties and jackets with tails.

I kept getting lost.
I didn’t know my way, and I wanted so badly to find Robb.
I wandered and looked for him in this labyrinth of elegance.
I kept falling down, nearly passing out from exhaustion.
I was in a curving hallway,
between a valet entrance and a most elaborate kitchen
with stainless steel everything.
I lay down on the carpet,
in a heap of a mess of exhaustion.

He came to me.
He knelt beside me and he rubbed my back,
sweeping my hair out of my face,
and he said,
“Don’t ever think you are lost. I will always find you.”

I don’t know what it means.
Or if it means anything.
But it was beautiful and real and his words were perfect.

  1. Oh, how beautiful yet a bit frustrating for you. I think this dream shows how you have been so “one” with him. Few marriages reach this level of love and commitment.

  2. Trisha, that was such a beautiful dream with a beautiful message. When I have had dreams of my husband like that, I write them down in the fly leaf of my Bible so I don’t ever forget them. The first dream I ever had of him was almost 2 months after he died and the night before my Mom joined him in heaven. He had the biggest happiest smile of pure joy on his face and called me by his pet name for me. He said, “I feel SO GOOD!!!” Then he raised his pant leg and said, “LOOK!!!” He was showing me that his legs were no longer swelled and he was totally and completely well. I’ll never forget it. It comforts me so much.

  3. Tricia, to me it has plenty of meaning, which I’ll tell you about later. But yes, it was a beautiful and real dream with perfect words.
