Water

DSC_0164

Joy and happiness are sometimes far from one another, barely connected by a thinning, weary thread.

Stones in the same river, washed over by the same rushing torrents.

“The Lord watches over the path of the godly.”
A person’s path is her life and her character.
The godly are joyful
because the Lord protects and cares for them,
he hears them when they cry out for justice,
and he secures their future.

Joy and happiness sometimes travel different paths.

My soul is thirsty.
My heart is dry.

Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.
They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit in each season.
Their leaves never wither.
Such trees are not bothered by the heat
or worried by long months of drought.
Their leaves stay green,
and they never stop producing fruit.

But my soul is thirsty.
My heart is dry.
God, my God, I cry out.  Your beloved needs you now.

The water was up to my ankles,
then up to my knees;
the water was up to my waist…
the river was too deep to walk across.

It was deep enough to swim in
but too deep to walk through.

The water is not the darkness, not the suffocation, not the depression.

The water is love.
I swim in the law of love,
the living water.
Deep enough to swim in,
too deep to walk through.

“With my roots deep in you,
I’ll grow the branch that bears the fruit.
And though I’m small,
I’ll still be standing in the storm.
Because I’m planted by the river
and your streams of living water.
I’ll grow up strong and beautiful –
All for your splendor, Lord.”

God has made me fruitful in this,
the land of my grief.

Thanks to words, thoughts, and lyrics from Jeremiah, Ezekial, Christy Nockels, Joseph, and the unnamed psalter.

  1. Praise God for His love and mercy. I don’t know how I could get through this life without being able to reach to Him at any given moment.

  2. Sometimes I pretend Christy Nockels is my best friend. Because why wouldn’t she be?!
